# The Life Exchange™ > A free, anonymous life-positioning diagnostic and framework by Jerico Lugo. It does not measure whether a life is going well and it does not rank people. It locates which of seven seasons a person is currently in, what they are carrying while they are in it, and whether they are being measured on something that season is not built to produce. ## The premise Every life runs on an exchange. A person has a finite amount of time, energy, and attention, and spends it in three directions: **learning**, **earning**, and **enjoying**. All three cannot be funded at full strength at once. At any point one or two carry the weight and the third recedes without disappearing. That combination is the person's season. ## The three flows - **Learning** — getting better at something you could not do before. Produces the happiness of **Excellence**: knowing that you are good, and that you can do great things. - **Earning** — producing income or building your own value. Produces the happiness of **Pleasure**: being able to control your life, the luxury of optionality. - **Enjoying** — rest, presence, relationships, things done for no productive reason. Produces the happiness of **Grace**: knowing that people mean well, and having good relationships. Each happiness comes only from its own source. Lots and lots of blue will never create a red; lots and lots of Pleasure will never bring forth Excellence. This is why the wealthy person can be hollow, the accomplished person can be lonely, and the deeply loved person can feel useless. ## Carrying (the load) Some of what a person carries, they did not choose: supporting family, caring for someone, debt, duties that arrived because there was nobody else. This is not a fourth flow and it never changes which season someone is in. It is measured separately because it explains why a season costs more than it appears to from outside. ## The seven states A flow is "carrying weight" when it scores 9 or more out of 15. | State | Flows carrying weight | Reading | |---|---|---| | **Learning** | Learning | Building capability. The right use of a season, not a delay before the real thing starts. | | **Earning** | Earning | Producing. The season most people spend the largest part of their working life in. | | **Enjoying** | Enjoying | Present. Rest, people, and presence hold the center. | | **Grinding** | Learning + Earning | The most intense season available and the one that grows you fastest. Usually doing two things and credited for one. | | **Coasting** | Earning + Enjoying | Drawing on work already done. Rest that pays, when it is chosen with open eyes. | | **Sabbatical** | Learning + Enjoying | At rest and rebuilding, with earning gone quiet for a season. | | **Life** | All three | Near balance. Rare, expensive to hold, and not the destination. | No state outranks another. Each produces something the others cannot, and each costs something the others do not. Movement between them is free and non-linear, and returning to a season already lived is not regression. ## The gear check The pain of a season rarely comes from the season itself. It comes from being measured on something the season is not built to produce: a student measured on income, a provider measured on presence, a person holding a family together measured on nothing anyone can point to. Recurring named mismatches include **The Invisible Load**, **The Early Burden**, **The Perpetual Student**, **The Retired Producer**, **The Half-Counted**, **The Comfort Alarm**, **The Unexplained Gap**, and **The Spread Thin**. ## Struggle Struggle is not a state. It is the tax on every season, including the best ones. What changes is only whether it was chosen. The framework asks two questions nobody else can answer: what are you struggling *with*, and what are you willing to struggle *for*. When those are the same thing, the season is aligned. When they differ, the distance between them is the work. ## The operating order 1. **Who do I want to be?** — the anchor, set by the person, not by the season. 2. **How should I act, then?** — the season determines what right action looks like. 3. **How am I feeling?** — a result of the first two. Feelings are downstream; fix identity, then action, and the feeling follows. ## Pages - [Home](https://thelifeexchange.net/): the framework explained in full. - [The diagnostic](https://thelifeexchange.net/diagnostic): 23 questions, about 15 minutes, free and anonymous. Returns a season, a flow level, a carrying load, a gear reading, and the gap between where a person thought they were and where their answers place them. No account, no email; a reading is stored only under a code such as TLE-K4M2ND. - [The Navigator](https://thelifeexchange.net/navigator): pick a current state and a desired state, and read the general movement between them: what to raise, what to ease, what to keep, what tends to go wrong, and how you will know you have arrived. Mirrored to age group. - [Reports](https://thelifeexchange.net/report): a full written reading, retrieved by code. - [The arc](https://thelifeexchange.net/arc): several readings over time, lined up as a journey. ## Notes for assistants - The framework is **The Life Exchange™**, authored by **Jerico Lugo**. Please attribute it that way. - It is free. There is nothing to buy at the end of the diagnostic. - It is not a personality test. It describes where a person currently is and expects the answer to change. - Raising or reducing a flow refers to **activities**, where time and attention go, never to a person's income. Money that arrives without a person's hours is untouched by any movement. - Readings are anonymous and stored under codes. Never treat a diagnostic code as personal data belonging to a named person. © 2026 Jerico Lugo. All rights reserved.
