A positioning framework for a life · by Jerico Lugo
You have a finite amount of time, energy, and attention, and you spend it in three directions: learning, earning, and enjoying. You cannot fund all three at full strength at once. The combination you are living right now is your season, and most people have never named theirs.
Twenty-three questions. Seven states. One honest answer. Free, anonymous, and there is nothing to buy at the end.
The thesis
Most of the ways we measure a life assume everyone should be producing, all the time. So people in a learning season feel behind, people in an enjoying season feel guilty, and people carrying half of a second life wonder why they are exhausted by lunchtime.
The Life Exchange™ starts from a different premise: every hour you spend somewhere is an hour taken from somewhere else. That trade is not a failure. It is the mechanism. The only real question is whether you know which trade you are currently making.
And underneath it, one position that never changes: you are the anchor, not the centre of a wheel you were placed on. The three flows come out of you, not the other way around, which is why you can never actually be misplaced.
The diagnostic does not tell you whether your life is going well, and it does not rank you against anyone. It locates three things:
The three flows, and the load
Getting better at something you could not do before. The flow that pays latest and compounds longest.
Producing income or building your own value. The flow most lives are organised around, chosen or not.
Rest, presence, people, things done for no productive reason. The only source of one particular kind of satisfaction.
What you hold that you did not choose: family, duty, debt. Never scored against you, always counted.
The seven states
No state on this map outranks another. Each produces something the others cannot, and each costs something the others do not. You will pass through several in a lifetime, in an order nobody can predict for you.
The three happinesses
This is why the season is worth knowing at all. Whatever feels missing in a life usually has a specific well it comes from, and drawing harder from the wrong one does not help.
From Learning
Knowing that you are good, and that you can do great things.
From Earning
Being able to control your life. The luxury of optionality: what you eat, where you live, who you are with.
From Enjoying
Knowing that people mean well, and having good relationships with friends, family, and even strangers.
Like the infinite shades of colour, well-rounded happiness is drawn from all three, and each one only comes from its original source. Lots and lots of blue will never create a red. In the same way, lots and lots of Pleasure will never bring forth Excellence.
It is why the wealthy person can be hollow, the accomplished person can be lonely, and the deeply loved person can feel useless. Each is drawing from one source for a happiness that source cannot produce. Your report reads which wells you are drawing from right now, and which one has gone quiet.
The gear check
A student measured on income. A provider measured on presence. A person holding a family together, measured on nothing anyone can point to. The diagnostic triangulates what is actually measuring you, and names the mismatch when it finds one. Five shapes come up so often they have names:
Working extremely hard, credited for none of it, because what you produce is other people's stability. The most common unnamed cost there is.
Expected to provide before being allowed to become able. The learning season that never got to happen.
One more certificate before the real thing starts. The readiness never arrives, because readiness was never the blocker.
Cannot rest without accounting for the rest. The most common form of misery inside an objectively good life.
A season of rest spent defending the season instead of using it, for people who need it justified.
The named patterns are the common ones, not the complete list. The reading reports whatever your answers actually show.
How it works
On any phone or laptop, in about 15 minutes. Every option shows its score; there is nothing hidden and no good result to fake toward. Built to survive weak signal: your answers sync when the connection does.
You get a code like TLE-K4M2ND. It is the only key to your reading: no account, no email, no name. Anonymous by design, at any age.
Your season, your load, your gear, the gap between where you thought you were and where your answers place you, and the general movement toward each of the other six states.
The diagnostic reads 90 days at a time. Retake it next season, keep both codes, and the arc view lines your readings up into a journey.
For schools, teams, and organizations
Event mode strips the diagnostic to code-only anonymity, works in venues with weak or no signal, feeds a live big screen as readings arrive, and gives facilitators an aggregate picture without ever exposing an individual. It is how the framework runs in universities and team sessions today. Partnership inquiries reach the author, Jerico Lugo.
FAQ
No, and that is the point. A personality instrument tells you who you permanently are. This one tells you where you currently are, and it expects the answer to change. Coming back in a year and landing somewhere else is the instrument working.
Yes. The diagnostic, the report, the Navigator, and the arc are free, and there is nothing to buy at the end. The only paid thing The Life Exchange offers is an optional 1-on-1 session for people whose circumstances need more than a general direction.
Your reading is stored only under a code like TLE-K4M2ND. No account, no email, no name, unless you are an adult and explicitly choose to attach contact details, with consent, before starting. Under 18, contact fields never even appear. Lose the code and the reading is gone; that is the honest cost of anonymity.
No. There is no high score. Life, the state where all three flows carry weight at once, is not the goal; it is expensive, rare, and temporary like all the others. Each state produces something the others cannot. The only bad position is not knowing yours.
The part of your capacity that goes to things you did not choose: supporting family, caring for someone, debt, duties that arrived because there was nobody else. It never affects which season you are in. It explains why your season costs more than it looks like it should, and for many people it is the first time that cost has ever been counted.
The diagnostic reads the last 90 days, so a season is the natural rhythm. Move, then measure. Keep every code; the arc view turns them into a journey.
Yes. Event mode is built for rooms: code-only anonymity, weak-signal tolerance, a live big screen, and aggregate insight for facilitators without exposing any individual. Inquiries reach the author, Jerico Lugo.
You are never out of place. You may simply not know where you are.
To begin where you are, you should know where you are.
Every life is an exchange. The question is whether you know what you are trading, and whether it is right for where you are now.
Move, and the way will open.
